How to effectively prevent dust explosions

Preventing the phenomenon of dust explosions is a comprehensive process that requires a multifaceted approach. Here are some key preventive measures:

I. Control the concentration of dust

Equipment airtight: ensure that the equipment, containers and conveying systems handling dust have good airtight performance, as far as possible to prevent dust leakage from the equipment.

Ventilation and dust removal: install effective ventilation and dust removal systems, strengthen ventilation and dust removal and dust extraction to reduce the concentration of dust in the workshop.

Dust deposition and cleaning: The floor, wall and ceiling of the dust workshop should be smooth and free of bumps, which is convenient for cleaning work. Timely use of explosion-proof vacuum-type dust-absorbing equipment for manual cleaning, and under the conditions of the dust workshop spray water for wet dust reduction. Increase the relative humidity of the air to more than 65%, which will help the dust to settle, and can absorb a large amount of heat generated by the oxidation of dust, while reducing static electricity.

II. Control of ignition sources

Equipment selection and operation: When repairing equipment with dust, tools that do not produce impact or friction sparks should be selected. The electrical equipment in the place should meet the requirements of explosion-proof, try not to install or install less static-prone and spark-prone mechanical equipment, and take electrostatic grounding protection measures.

Open flame management: Any place that generates combustible dust should be listed as a no-fire zone, and the use of open flames should be strictly controlled. Before carrying out welding operations in dust explosion hazardous places, the materials in the equipment should be cleared, and effective measures should be taken to avoid welding slag falling into the equipment or on the materials.

Spark detection and fire extinguishing: in the conditions of the processing plant, you can install a spark detection system and fire extinguishing linkage system, this system is usually installed in the dust pipeline or powder conveying pipeline, after the detection of sparks in the pipeline, the sparks will be quenched with the appropriate water mist.

III. Control of Oxygen Levels

In some cases, the oxygen content in the system can be reduced by filling inert gases (such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc.) in the mill, thus preventing the occurrence of dust explosions.

IV. Other measures

Material handling: the material to be crushed must be strictly screened, de-stoned and iron absorption treatment to prevent impurities from entering the grinder to produce sparks.

Temperature control: the surface temperature of the heating device, high-temperature material transport pipeline can not be higher than the ignition temperature of the dust cloud.

Regular inspection and maintenance: We should regularly check the electrical equipment to prevent the ignition source due to the aging of its wiring, short-circuit.

Personnel training: Strengthen the safety education of the staff, improve their understanding of the danger of dust explosion, and master the basic knowledge of emergency rescue.

V. Emergency Preparedness

Develop dust explosion emergency plan, including emergency evacuation, initial fire fighting, personnel rescue and other measures to ensure that in the event of a dust explosion can be timely and effective response.

By taking the above measures, the risk of dust explosion can be significantly reduced to protect the safety of people and property.
